Get Started

Start here with the EasyChat documentation

Welcome to EasyChat. EasyChat can recognize, translate, or process content from screenshots, text fields, selected text, and system audio with AI assistance.

If this is your first time using EasyChat, set it up in this order: install the application, configure a translation source and a shortcut, then download the OCR or ASR models required by the features you want to use.

Before you begin

EasyChat currently supports Windows. You must obtain your own API keys for AI models, machine translation, and some speech services. EasyChat does not include credentials for third-party services.

First-time setup

1. Install and launch EasyChat

Get either the installer or portable build from Download and install. After EasyChat starts, the Home page shows whether a translation engine and shortcut have been configured.

2. Configure a translation source

Open Setting in the sidebar, then select Translation:

  • Configure an AI model if you need correction, polishing, summaries, explanations, or dictionary details.
  • Configure a machine translation service such as Baidu, Tencent, Google, or DeepL if you only need fast, general sentence translation.

After configuration, use Test Connection to verify the API address, model, and key.

AI models and machine translation

  • See Translation sources for a detailed comparison.
  • We strongly recommend using an AI Model as your primary translation source to access the complete EasyChat feature set.

3. Add a shortcut

Open the Shortcut page and add a frequently used action. These are good starting points:

ActionPurpose
Screenshot translationTranslate text in webpages, videos, images, or other content that cannot be copied.
Typing TranslateTranslate text directly into a chat app, browser, or another focused text field.
Quick TranslateOpen a window, enter text, and view the translation.

If a shortcut conflicts with another application, choose a key combination not reserved by Windows, your input method, or other software.

4. Download models as needed

Complete your first translation

After the basic setup, try a screenshot translation:

  1. Press the screenshot translation shortcut configured on the Shortcut page.
  2. Drag to select an area containing text.
  3. Wait for OCR and translation to finish, then read the translation in the result window.

For text you can copy, use Quick Translate or the Selection Toolbar. To process system audio, open Speech Recognition and start recognition.

Troubleshooting

No translation appears

Confirm that a working service is configured under Setting > Translation, then check its API key, model name, and network proxy. Both AI models and machine translation require a connection to a third-party service.

No text is recognized in a screenshot

Make sure you downloaded an OCR model for the text language. Select a clear area with sufficient contrast whenever possible.

A shortcut does not respond

Confirm that the shortcut entry is enabled and that no other software is using the same key combination. Some security applications may also restrict global shortcuts or simulated input.
